My progression over the years

I got this idea on Google+ from Stephanie Young.Who already made an huge progression at painting in a very short time.
And I did something similar like this in 2012 (follow the link to the post), When this blog was written in Dutch.
I found it a really good idea to do it again now 3 years later.

My first regiment was a skeleton regiment in 2007 ( looking back they look awful ).
and some other colored miniatures (Chaos & High elves 2007)
Then from my post in 2012 the Hordes miniature and Chimera.
The Chimera is done by hand ( didn't have an airbrush then ).
And finally a few examples of my work this year (2015).
So this is the end of the tour. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Suggestions are always welcome ! There is always room for improvement !

  1. This is really a great idea. I only wish I had some photo's of the first mini's I painted back in 1993 :(
[Yes, they were really terrible, Lol.]

    2. Sorry, I meant the figures that I painted were really terrible - in comparison your skeleton's are so much better.

When I first started I couldn't paint without making a mess. Skin coloured paint on the clothes, great big eyes that looked stupid. I was a terrible painter when I first began.

Apologies if you believed I was saying your work was terrible, as I honestly don't. For a beginner those skeletons are really very good.

    3. No apologies needed Roy ! I think it of my own work, like so many others, I presume.
I think this goes for everyone who starts with painting. And beauty comes with experience and finding & testing new techniques. Never to late to learn more & improve !

  4. Practice does indeed make perfect. You have certainly without a doubt improved by leaps and bounds. I particularly like your dwarves (second last row) which I superbly painted in my humble opinion.

    1. Thank you very much ! Yes, I'm super happy with my progress. Otherwise my dwarf army would not be so large as it is now and my High elves would be non existing. Before I reached this kind of paint level I felt no real drive to paint because I found my miniatures did not make me proud to say : These are mine ! Now I can say that I'm proud of what I'm producing. But I still want to improve and keep searching for advancement ... so I can be even better !

  5. Question is can you get better! You're on a very high level allready. I think we all think the same of our own work. When I look back to my first painted figures, I want to throw them away. But I found the solution. A white basecoat and I can paint them again! :-D

    Greetings

    1. I hope so Peter. I at least I have to try to achieve a higher paint level. And you're right , when we're not happy with what we have painted , strip it , prime it and paint it again !
      Greetings
